BRIEF HISTORY OF GOVERVMENT SECRETARIAL SCHOOL<\/strong>
The Government Secretarial School was established in 1952 at Cantonments,\u00a0Accra, by the then British Colonial government of the Gold Coast under the\u00a0governorship\u00a0\u00a0of\u00a0\u00a0Lord\u00a0\u00a0Listowel.\u00a0\u00a0The\u00a0\u00a0school\u00a0\u00a0was\u00a0\u00a0established\u00a0\u00a0as\u00a0\u00a0part\u00a0\u00a0of\u00a0\u00a0the\u00a0Africanisation policy to train high calibre secretarial staff for the civil service and\u00a0other public sector organizations. The first Principal was Miss Alice Morgan, an\u00a0European professional secretary. The school started with three female students.<\/p>

The training was for duration of three months and comprised of Shorthand, Typing\u00a0and English Language. In 1957 the enrolment increased to 40 students made up\u00a010 young men and 30 women. Since its establishment, the school has trained\u00a0students from other African countries including Uganda, Namibia, Zimbabwe,\u00a0Zambia, Kenya, Swaziland, Tanzania, Gambia, Cameroon and South Africa.<\/p>

Apart from training students from other African countries, the school has also\u00a0helped\u00a0\u00a0in\u00a0\u00a0the\u00a0\u00a0establishment\u00a0\u00a0of\u00a0\u00a0secretarial\u00a0\u00a0schools\u00a0\u00a0in\u00a0\u00a0other\u00a0\u00a0African\u00a0\u00a0countries\u00a0including Zanzibar now part of Tanzania Over the years, the school has expanded\u00a0and currently has six satellite campuses in Accra, Koforidua, Sekondi, Kumasi, Ho\u00a0and Tamale.<\/p>

The school is the oldest and largest service provider when it comes to secretarial\u00a0training in Ghana with expert, professional and technical competence.<\/p>
