The Office of the Head of the Civil Service<\/h3>

The Right to Information (RTI) Bill, enshrined in the 1992 Constitution of Ghana, ensures that every individual has the right to access specific categories of information to hold the government accountable. To operationalize this constitutional provision, Parliament passed the Right to Information Act, 2019 (Act 989), which received assent from His Excellency, the President of Ghana, on May 21st, 2019.<\/p>

The RTI Act (Act 989) establishes mechanisms and protocols to facilitate access to information for all individuals, including those from government agencies and publicly funded NGOs.<\/p>

In line with these directives, the Ministry of Information has authorized the deployment of ‘trained information officers’ to be stationed at the OHCS. Their primary responsibility is to process all applications for access to information.<\/p>

Consequently, the OHCS is now equipped to receive and handle all requests for information, adhering to relevant exemptions necessary for safeguarding public interest in a democratic society.<\/p>

To ensure compliance with the RTI Act, a dedicated RTI desk has been established within the Reforms Coordinating Unit (RCU) of OHCS, with Helena Wireko Tawiah appointed as the Designated RTI Officer. .<\/p>
